Lantau is a dramatic island with majestic peaks, steep, wooded hillsides, long, sandy beaches, rivers, waterfalls, mudflats, wetlands and mangroves. Over half of the land is designated Country Park and offers numerous walking, hiking and mountainbike trails.
Lantau and its islands have a rich flora and fauna including the Indo-Pacific hump back dolphins, water buffalo, feral cattle, Muntjac Deer, 120 species of butterflies and unique species such as Bodadek’s worm lizard and Romers Tree Frog.
Extremely rare species of plants and shrubs can be found on Lantau and there are coral reefs off the Soko Islands.
The main village settlements are along the coastline and include traditional fishing villages and temples. Head to higher groundfor Buddhist and Christian monasteries and mountain cabin retreats.
