Forests of Lantau
A practical one day ecological restoration workshop that can be adapted for all age groups (Primary 2 and up). We examine Hong Kong’s high deforestation rate and investigate our incredible wealth of plant life we still have. Fieldwork activities include tree planting, native and exotic tree identification, eco-walks and fire-break maintenance. Study time includes problem solving group work and visual presentations.
Kickstart Sustainability
A one day programme held at Ark Eden’s eco-house providing interactive and discovery learning on how to come to grips with sustainable living. Activities vary with age groups of participants and their focus of inquiry but could include eco-treasure hunts, picking and cooking lunch from our organic gardens, tree-planting, making natural toiletries, cleaning products and composting.
Peak Oil
A powerful one day journey tracking the ancient history of oil to its current demise studying a country experiencing Peak Oil. This programme looks at Transition Culture and uses problem solving strategies such as the Six Thinking Hats to seek practical actions and solutions.
Plant Power
An eye-opening one day workshop looking at the native plant life of Hong Kong, including vegetables and native trees. Adapted for all ages.
Save The Fish
A one day workshop studying rivers, streams, beaches and their aquatic life systems. Activities include farming in the wetland and bio-intensive farming, shrimping, stream sketching, ecological restoration work and action planning for the future.
Climate Change
A one day workshop examining the causes and effects of global warming and what immediate action we can take to combat it.
What a Waste
A one day workshop highlighting how our everyday choices make a difference and how we can all contribute to a cleaner tomorrow. Practical activities include a data collecting beach-clean, a team quiz, setting up personal environmental systems, recycling kitchen organic waste, eco-shopping, a conservation treasure trail and monitoring energy-saving.
Holding Our Breath
A one day workshop on air pollution, it's causes and sources, defining everyone's daily contributions, and looking at practical solutions. Activities include field trips looking at urban transport, power companies, and studying the aviation & shipping industries.
Big Heart for Lantau
One day workshop exploring the fascinating island of Lantau - its history, ecology, geography and culture. Activities include trail hiking, island hopping, visits to either ancient monasteries, stone huts, traditional fishing villages, and many of Lantau's secret hide-aways.
On the Buffalo Trail
A memorable one day workshop in the water buffalo habitats of Pui O, discovering different creature habitats and micro-habitats. Groups will also study biodiversity and eco-systems in Hong Kong. You'll discover dung beetles, ghost crabs, mud-skippers, egrets, perhaps even buffalo leeches, and learn all about their lives through investigative fieldwork and group work.
Charming Farming
A practical one day field trip covering the many practical aspects of organic farming including sustainable farming, bio-intensive and permaculture design concepts, organic fertilisers and pesticides, composting, planting and harvesting seasons, and how to prepare a "green lunch!"
In a Small World
This one day work shop, held at Ark Eden Eco House, explores the wonderful world of mini-beasts, familiarising young students with the natural environment, the habitats of insects and small creatures and their life-cycles in the local environment. Depending upon the season, you'll meet Praying Mantis, Lantern bugs, ladybirds, cicadas and swallowtail butterflies - just a few of extraordinary creatures that live among us.
